Hearing Implants

Cochlear Implants

Cochlear – MedEL – Oticon Medical – Advanced Bionics

There are four manufacturers.
All cochlear implants consist of two components- the external sound processor and the internal electrode that curls inside the snail shell shaped Cochlear to electrically stimulate the hearing nerves. Cochlear implants are ideal for people with Sensorineural or nerve damage hearing loss who do not get enough benefit from wearing standard hearing aids.

Bone Implants

Cochlear – MedEL – Oticon Medical

There are three manufacturers.
There are various types of bone implants which all work in slightly different ways, however they all require an internal surgical component as well as an external sound processor. They all work to improve the mechanical transmission of sound into the ear. Bone implants are ideal for people with longstanding Conductive or Mixed hearing loss who either cannot wear or who do not get enough benefit from wearing standard hearing aids.
